Asperger Syndrome (AS) is the term used to describe the more moderate part and with greater performance than is commonly known as Pervasive Developmental Disorders (or autistic spectrum).
Like other conditions in this spectrum, it is believed that Asperger Syndrome (hereafter SA) is a development disorder with neurological basis of unknown cause in most cases, in which there are deviations or abnormalities in three broad aspects of development: social connections and skills, the use of language for communicative purposes and certain behavioral characteristics and style associated with repetitive or persistent features, and a limited but intense range of interests.
The presence of these three types of dysfunction, whose degree can range from relatively mild to severe, which is clinically defined all pervasive developmental disorders (PDD), from SA to classic autism.
